Premade hats are linked in our Amazon list too if you're in a real time crunch or not into DIY, but we recommend the DIY versions—they’re lighter and much cooler to wear! I also think Ducky and Bunny both deserve their eyelids, it gives them that extra... sass.
Step 1: Create the Hats
The hats are the stars of this costume! Here’s how to make them:
Bunny Hat
The Eyes: Cut out four circles in the different colors of eye felt, making the blue and white ones the same size, and the other two (purple and black) a little smaller than the previous. Cut a small black strip, and put it across the eye, trim to the width. Use your white puff paint to add a little sparkle in the eye.
The Nose: You’ll need two Mint oval shapes, one missing just a little bit from the bottom, to leave space for the bunny tooth. Add a big Navy Oval with your puff paint.
The Ears: Use your pipecleaner to shape out a bunny ear shape. Glue it on to one side of the bright blue felt. Add the glue to the other side of the pipecleaner and lay the second blue sheet of felt on the top. Trim around the ear. Repeat for the second ear, then add a smaller lime green shape to the inside of the ear. Hot glue them to the top of the hat
The Hang Tab: This was by far the trickiest part! I started with puff paint, but it was WAY too floppy. I ended up making it out of hot glue also!
Whiskers: I used puff paint on top of the hat, but I wish I would have used either a pipe cleaner, or something that actually stuck off of the hat. Let me know if you have a better idea!
Ducky Hat
The Eyes: The steps are all the same as the Bunny eyes, except you’ll need on extra piece of brown that is bigger than your white circle with a little 3 prong fan shape on the outside. I use a sharpie to outline my shapes before I cut one, and then trace one to make the other side so they match.
The Beak: Make four rounded rectangles and glue two of them together, to make it even thicker to mimic the beak look. Then repeat, before gluing them together, leaving a small opening on one side.
The Hair: Glue a cluster of feathers to the top!
Step 2: Build the Outfits
Bunny: Wear a bright blue base (tank top and shorts or an activewear romper). Add a tutu for that extra “fluff”! Optional: Glue a big piece of lime green felt to the “belly” of your shirt
Ducky: Go all yellow! A t-shirt and shorts make the costume simple and breathable.
Pro tip: Use colorful socks and sneakers to really sell the character.
Step 3: Put It All Together
Once your hats are finished, just add the outfits and you’re ready to go! These costumes are comfortable enough for a full day at Disney, a Halloween party, or trick-or-treating with kids.
And the best part? Everyone will recognize you as Ducky and Bunny—two of the funniest characters from Toy Story 4.
Here’s how ours turned out for the Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween kick off party this year! We got lots of compliments, and to be honest, I thought ours were the best of the night that we saw! It was legit so hot that most people opted for just a t-shirt costume. I was glad we put in a little more effort!
